5 Benefits of Embracing SAP on Microsoft Azure

SAP on Azure

After 25 years of their partnership, in 2019 SAP and Microsoft launched Project Embrace, with the goal of providing enterprises with a simple roadmap to business innovation, while utilizing the cloud.

Microsoft Azure provides support for SAP certified IaaS offerings to 34 regions worldwide out of its 55 total regions.

Project Embrace creates personalized roadmaps tailored to your business and specific industry, building recommendations on which platform, software, services, and infrastructure to use. The goal is to provide customers with custom blueprints to support their digital transformation journey to becoming an intelligent enterprise, by partnering with hyperscalers and GSSPs.

Here are just 5 of the reasons to move your SAP applications to Azure:

1) Multiple Deployment Options
Microsoft Azure supports a wide range of SAP products, including SAP Business Suite, SAP HANA, SAP S/4HANA, SAP BW/4HANA, SAP Business One, and SAP Hybris. SAP on Azure can be deployed as a Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), or Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). Hybrid solutions are also available, allowing you to integrate on-premise domains, or the ability to simply migrate your SAP landscape, from R/3 up to S/4HANA, to Azure. It provides TDI certified appliances, 31+ HANA offerings, ranging from 192 GB to 24 TB memory (scale-up), and 120 TB for scale-out certification. SAP also supports multiple operating systems and platforms such as SQL, Oracle, DB2, Sybase, and HANA, giving you more flexibility.

2) Cut Costs
Using SAP on Azure rather than on-premise hardware saves an average of $7.2 million. Companies can also save money with features such as Reserved VM Instances, Azure Site Recovery for DR, and vCPU constraint for SQL/Oracle database based SAP systems. Customers have achieved above 100% Return On Investment (ROI), reduced data center costs, and have saved money by reducing delays and downtime.

3) Scalability & Reliability
Microsoft Azure supports up to 12 TB memory of VM and 24 TB memory (Scale-up_ and 120 TB scale-out bare-metal offering for HANA databases). Azure Ultra SSD offers a single disk that is capable of 160k IOPS, 2 GBps with less than 1 ms of latency. Hana system replication, host auto-failover, and storage replication are some examples of the capabilities when hosting SAP on Azure. It also offers 99.99% availability for its VM appliances, lowering customers' downtime to almost zero.

4) Secure Your Systems
SAP on Azure allows the protection of your systems through replication capabilities. With Automated backup and disaster recovery systems, you can ensure that your data and applications are secure at all times. Create System Replication between cloud and on-premise solutions, or even multi-region disaster recovery systems. With SAP's current backup capabilities, you can create disaster recovery from any point in time as well. Microsoft has also invested $1 billion per year into their security and compliance offerings. With multiple options, customers can utilize services such as Azure Active Directory, Azure Sentinel, or Azure security center, all tailored to different parts of your systems. Whether its identity management, threat monitoring, or backups, SAP on Azure gives you peace of mind that your systems and applications are secure.

5) Advanced Analytics
SAP on Azure allows organizations to gain real-time insights through predictive analytics. Using their dashboard, use intelligence tools, respond to problems and conditions as they happen to improve decision-making. No matter what industry you are in, you need an all-in-one platform, able to organize all of your data. Being able to monitor your tasks and results, allows you to react in real-time, meaning that you'll be able to keep your customers happy with improved services and less downtime.
